Cusco Wildlife Rescue Center is a family-run wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center at Km 22 of the Cusco–Pisac road, founded on July 17, 2007 by Engineer Lino Chávez Álvarez and the rest of the family.
The Cusco Wildlife Rescue Center was founded by Engineer Lino Chávez Álvarez and the rest of the family on July 17, 2007, with the aim of conserving endangered species such as the Andean condor. The idea arose when they realised the urgent need to protect these majestic birds and other native species. Construction began in 2009, funded through the eleventh contest organised by the Association for Welfare and Development for wildlife management plans across Peru — the project placed first in its category.
Since its foundation, the rescue center has worked to rehabilitate and release Andean condors equipped with satellite GPS. This monitoring system tracks the movements of released condors, protecting them and studying their behaviour in the wild. Alongside condors, the rescue center houses other endangered species — pumas, Andean cats, margays, vicuñas and more — providing a safe refuge for recovery.
CWRC is not only a conservation centre; it plays a crucial role in environmental education. Through programs and guided tours, the rescue center teaches visitors and the community about biodiversity and how individuals contribute to its protection. The educational approach has helped foster a culture of respect and care for nature, supported by an ongoing volunteer program.
The rescue center's vision is the reproduction and preservation of the Andean condor, ensuring its long-term survival. Thanks to the dedication of its founders and collaborators, CWRC has become a symbol of hope and a concrete commitment to protecting our planet — a reminder that passion and determination can make a significant difference in wildlife conservation.

Founded in 2007 and run by the whole Chavez family, the Cusco Wildlife Rescue Center is a safe haven for animals rescued from illegal trafficking, black markets, and mistreatment. Our 7,800-square-meter grounds offer specialised care, proper nutrition, and enrichment to ensure the best possible quality of life for our residents.
Our mission is to protect Peru's wildlife through rescue, rehabilitation and education. We envision a future where wildlife thrives in its natural habitats, free from human threats, supported by communities that understand and value biodiversity.
CWRC sits at kilometer 22 of the Cusco–Pisac road, a half-hour trip from the Plaza de Armas of Cusco. Local buses depart from PUPUTI street. The grounds set aside for the animal shelter cover 7,800 square meters along the Sacred Valley corridor.
